A core mission in the academy is teaching and learning. We all have an unwavering commitment to improve student learning and success through outstanding teaching. However, across higher education, there are many changes and innovations impacting this critical mission and process, including reducing time and cost to degree, emerging digital innovations that both advance and challenge the practice of teaching, and expectations to prepare students for an evolving and changing 21st-century workforce. To help Penn State not only respond, but to provide leadership in addressing these emerging forces, one of the five strategic priorities of the Strategic Plan focuses on the Transformation of Education.

This forum included an update regarding the priorities of the Transforming Education Steering Committee, but more importantly, allowed participants to engage in a dialogue to help inform this important work. The panel featured the co-chairs of two of the Transforming Education Working Groups: Tom Litzinger, Research on Educational Transformation, and Larry Boggess, Faculty Development Resources

Regional Strategic Planning Forums

During the Spring 2017 semester, the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost and the Office of Planning and Assessment co-sponsored a series of regional strategic planning forums related to strategic plan implementation. Each forum focused on a specific theme from the University’s strategic plan and the work being done to take ideas related to that theme and translate them into impactful, real-world initiatives.

Penn State campuses throughout the Commonwealth served as hosts for the forums. See the list below for the forum locations and topics, as well as links to video recordings of the events and related media coverage.
